'It'll be good' - Ex-Jose Mourinho favourite backs Special One to take over at West Ham

Jose Mourinho has been tipped to do a exciting job at West Ham if he was given the opportunity after leaving Fenerbahce.

After leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce after 18 months in charge, the Portuguese manager is back on the lookout for another opportunity.

Mourinho has been linked with the Nottingham Forest job, following reported disagreements between owner Evangelos Marinakis and Nuno Espirito Santo.

Also, the Special One Mourinho could be open talks to be Rangers manager as pressure mounts for Russell Martin after a dismal start to the season in Glasgow.

However, having played under the ex-Tottenham manager at Chelsea, Joe Cole believes that it could be a mutually beneficial deal to have his old boss running things at West Ham after Graham Potter’s horrific start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 August), the former Hammer and Blue Cole was asked whether the Portuguese would be the right fit at the London Stadium.

Having arrived to Stamford Bridge with lots of potential but an incomplete player in 2003, Mourinho turned the ex-England international into an all-round total footballer.

Once speaking to Manchester Evening News (17 February 2018), Cole said about his ex-manager: “Straight away, he ‘got’ me.

He knew that if he dropped me, when he brought me on for 20 minutes in the next game he was going to get 20 minutes of the best I could give.”

Therefore, his views on the former Man United boss has value as he backed the Special One to be a potential hit for the Irons.

Cole stated on talkSPORT: “I think it’ll be fireworks if if they [Mourinho and West Ham] were together.

I think it’ll be good.”

Whilst for now the Hammers board seems to be backing the former Brighton boss, the more defeats and underwhelming results that accrue, the more restless they will become.

Potter looks to be wielding no ounce of excitement or energy at the helm in east London and it looks like the players and the fans are growing tired of his rigid football.

Indeed, Mourinho is known for his pragmatic play style, yet it has garnered a plethora of results and trophies, making him one of the best managers in history.

Knowing that he is currently out of a job, I am intrigued to see if the Irons do make contact with the Portuguese, especially with the current English manager sweating under mounting pressure.

Looking at the players available for the claret and blue, the likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen are definitely Mourinho players who could thrive under new leadership.

Time will tell, but as a neutral I think it is fair to say that we would love to see the ex-Chelsea manager back in the Premier League once again!
